We are All Sinners in Need of a Savior
If you’ve read the article, SIN – Who Cares?, you know sin entered the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. And, you also know their sin nature has been passed down through the ages to each of us. Death is the payment (the wages) of sin. Our bodies will experience death. But since we are three part beings, what will happen to our spirit and soul? Unless we are saved, our spirit and soul will experience eternal death (separation from God) and torment in hell. We are all sinners in need of a savior. That Savior is God’s Son, Jesus.
Salvation is a Person – Jesus Christ (The Messiah)
Acts 2:36 (NIV) “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” Acts 4:12 (NCV) Jesus is the only One who can save people. No one else in the world is able to save us.” Once we have faith in Jesus, The Messiah, we have salvation. The direction we are headed changes as a result of salvation.
Which Direction Are You Headed?
If we, as humans, had an on-board navigation screen like a GPS device, we could see where each of us is headed – to heaven or hell. Most of us want to go to heaven, but how can we know for sure our spirit and soul are headed there when our body dies? Two GPS models are shown here to illustrate the difference between a believer bound for heaven and an unbeliever bound for hell. Let’s take a look at each model and see what’s different.
Global Positioning System - Hell Bound Model God's Positioning System - Heaven Bound Model

Unbeliever (born of Adam - in sin) Believer (born again spiritually in Christ)

The body: If you’ve ever seen or had a handheld GPS device for navigation, you know they come in different shapes, colors and sizes (like our earthly human bodies). Our earth suits come with 5 senses built-in. We can hear, see, touch, taste and smell – important for navigating this natural realm on earth. Both GPS models are the same with an outer covering (body) and 5 built-in senses.
The soul: This part of us is invisible, but important because it includes our mind, will, emotions, and conscience. The soul in each GPS model is shown as a small programmable memory card. Both models appear to be the same, but we know each person thinks differently and has different desires and emotions. We also know we can’t always depend on our built-in conscience to guide us. Our conscience has taken a detour. Normalization has taken place over time as we watch TV, listen to the media, and interact with others. No matter the GPS model, each soul is different due to what our 5 senses draw into it and due to the kind of influencing spirit we have “onboard.”
The spirit (heart): This is invisible also, and it is the most important part of our being (truly the heart of the matter). A battery is used to show the spirit in each GPS model. The spirit in each model is completely different depending on our birth status. The kind of spirit we have determines the direction we are headed.
We are born of Adam in sin with a heart of stone (a dead spirit which includes a sin nature that desires evil). We have no spark of spiritual life. This dead spirit influences our soul (mind, will, emotions, and conscience) and ultimately causes our body to desire sin through its senses. It’s as if we have a “5 senses vacuum cleaner” that draws in everything from this sin-filled world.
Even so, what comes out of a person’s heart is what defiles him. Romans 7:20-23 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” But, thankfully, we can choose what comes out of us.
The Holy Bible tells us sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59:2 (NLT) It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore. There is a price to pay for sin. Romans 6:23 (NIV) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. The first part of this verse speaks of a natural death and a spiritual death (eternal torment and separation from God) – hell! But God has made a way out of this impending horror through His Son, Jesus Christ our Savior. This is God’s grace – His free gift to us. Our old model can be redeemed for a new model! We can be “upgraded.” Let’s see how we can become a new person with a new birth status.
Two Realms
Natural realm: We can easily experience the natural realm with our body’s five senses. We can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch what our Creator, God, has provided. And thankfully, God provided these senses so we can navigate in this natural realm.
Supernatural realm: Where is God? Where are the angels? Where are Satan and the demon angels? We don’t naturally see them because they are in an unseen realm – the supernatural realm. This realm is outside of time and space. But just because we don’t see these supernatural beings doesn’t mean they don’t exist. If we could see into that supernatural realm, we would see a war being waged by Satan against God for our souls.
Both of these realms and everything within them was created by God. God is sovereign, having power and authority over everything. We are not able to see thoughts, ideas, or emotions, but we know they exist. Faith isn’t something we can see, but we live by faith in the natural realm everyday. We have faith that the car will start, that the boss will pay us our wages, and that the planets will stay in place. But, to believe that God exists, that He sent His only begotten Son to be born of a woman on earth, live a sinless life, die for our sins, and be resurrected – that takes a supernatural faith. And, that supernatural faith can only come from God.
Supernatural Faith Changes Everything
What is faith? Here is what the Bible says. Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Simply put: Faith = Belief = Trust
Faith in what? “The Truth” John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, is “The Truth.” Jesus is “The Way,” as He provided a way for those who believe in Him to come to His Father in heaven. And, Jesus is “The Life.” He, as the spotless Lamb of God, gave up His life on a cross for us and paid our sin debt in full. Jesus did not remain dead! On the third day in the grave, He was resurrected to life. We, as believers, spiritually participated in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. This was our true baptism. Jesus has provided life everlasting for us if we will only have faith in Him and what He has accomplished for us.
How do we know Jesus is The Messiah? Specific biblical prophecies (descriptions of events and people) were written about thousands of years ago and have been fulfilled. The following chart lists only some of the many prophecies about Jesus, The Messiah. These were foretold in Old Testament times and fulfilled in New Testament times.
| Virgin Birth & Named Immanuel | Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV) Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. | Matthew 1:23 (NIV) “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). |
| Born in Bethlehem | Micah 5:2 (NKJV) “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.” | John 7:42 (NKJV) Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” |
| Performed Miracles | Isaiah 35:5-6 (NIV) Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. | Luke 7:21 (NKJV) And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight. |
| Rejected by His People | Psalm 118:22-23 (NKJV) The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. | Matthew 21:42-43 (NIV) Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.” |
| Suffered with and for Sinners | Isaiah 53:12 (NLV) So I will give Him a share among the great. He will divide the riches with the strong, because He gave up His life. They thought of Him as One Who broke the Law. Yet He Himself carried the sin of many, and prayed for the sinners. | Mark 15:27 (NKJV) With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. |
How do we know the Bible is true? Specific biblical prophecies (descriptions of events and people) were written about thousands of years ago and have been fulfilled. You can see hundreds of prophecies fulfilled and those yet to be fulfilled at Bible Prophecies.
How do we get the supernatural faith needed to believe in Christ Jesus? Romans 10:17 (NLT) So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. The Holy Spirit is at work in us building our faith as we hear the Bible verses spoken out loud. Romans 12:3 (ESV) For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. God hasn’t assigned a little faith to one and more to another. This verse says He has assigned the measure of faith to each person. This is the supernatural faith which can only come from God.
This supernatural faith is the faith of Jesus needed for faith in Jesus. Galatians 2:16 (KJV) Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Faith may or may not be a feeling, but it’s definitely a knowing. Our feelings are part of our emotions of the soul, and we know our feelings/emotions can change from day to day. Supernatural faith comes from God through hearing “The Truth” of the Bible. Once we believe “The Word” of God and “The Way” of salvation, this supernatural faith comes to reside in our spirit, deep in the heart of us. And, we are given “The Life” (eternal life) through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Faith sends us to heaven. Unbelief sends us to hell.

Be Born Again Spiritually & Saved !
Once we know Jesus is the Son of God and believe Jesus paid our sin debt in full, we are born again spiritually. Jesus took our place on that cross some 2,000 years ago with His death, burial, and resurrection. At the cross, the Holy Spirit joined us with Christ’s body. Our old spirit with its sin nature died with Christ and was buried with Him. Spiritually, we were baptized into His death (placed under the earth in the tomb). Our baptism continued as we emerged from the tomb having received eternal life in Christ when He rose from the dead.
Psalm 51:10 (RSV) Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. At the moment we believe, we receive a new spirit with a new nature – a new heart that desires God. We now have the spark of life ~ eternal life! Our old GPS model has been redeemed for a new model and it’s shouting “Recalculating!” That’s the moment our destination changes from hell to heaven. Everything changes with supernatural faith.
We are born again spiritually and saved! But wait, one more exciting change happens. At the moment we believe, God comes to live in us – all three persons of the Godhead! Remember, God is omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time). The Holy Spirit (3rd Person of the Trinity) lives within us and guides us. Actually, the Holy Spirit and our spirit are one as written in 1 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV) But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. We have God’s on-board navigation system (pre-set and locked in) with heaven as our destination.
Our old Global Positioning System has been redeemed for God’s Positioning System. The Godhead is positioned within us; we are taken out of old Adam and positioned in Christ. And, Christ is positioned in the Father and the Father positioned in Christ. As Christians, we are secure in our position due to our new birth status!
Believers are in Christ:
Romans 8:1 (NKJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Christ is in The Father; The Father is in Christ:
John 14:8-10 (NKJV) Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
The Father lives in believers:
John 14:23 (NLT) Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.
Jesus Christ (the Son of God) lives in believers:
Galatians 2:20 (NLT) My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
The Holy Spirit lives in believers:
1 Corinthians 3:16 (NET) Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
The Holy Spirit not only guides believers, but is the restraining force against evil in this world. Individually, we can restrain evil also. We can protect our body and soul from evil influences by adding a filter to our “5 senses vacuum cleaner.” We can choose to be selective in what we hear, see, touch, taste and smell.
Our old dead spirit with its sin nature desired evil and the result was sin. But, our new spirit with its new nature is perfect and desires God. Hebrews 10:14 (KJV) For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Our new spirit is as pure and perfect as Jesus. Ephesians 4:24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. Romans 8:10 (KJV) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
The article explains: Spirit, Soul and Body
Renew Your Mind with The Word of God & Embrace “The Truth”
Once we are saved, will we still sin? Unfortunately, yes. Satan and sin are still in this world. In our born again, perfect spirit, our sin nature has been removed and replaced with a new nature. But, we still have a body (the flesh with its “5 senses vacuum cleaner”) and a soul that desires what the world has to offer. Galatians 5:16-17 (NIV) So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. Romans 6:12 (NIV) Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
In order to operate fully in this new spirit with its new nature, our mindset will need to change. Romans 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Spirit (perfect) – Sanctified, Safe & Secure !
The believer’s spirit is not being perfected – it is perfect! Hebrews 10:14 (KJV) For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Hebrews 2:11 (KJV) For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Once saved, we are safe and secure. No one can snatch us out of Jesus’ hand or God’s hand. John 10:28-30 (ESV) I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
Romans 8:38-39 (ESV) For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Body & Soul (not perfect) – A Work in Progress
The believer’s body and the soul (mind, will, emotions and conscience) are not perfect. Eph. 4:21–24 (NLT) Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. As we read verses-chapters-books in the Bible, the Holy Spirit will renew our thoughts and attitudes.
Romans 8:12 (NIV) Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. The body and the soul will continue to desire sin unless the mind within the soul is re-programmed. This can be done just as the little memory card in the GPS model can be re-programmed. Then, where the mind goes, the body will follow. Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV) For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
God’s Word: Read More & Sin Less
The more we read God’s Word, the more we will desire to please God and sin less. Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) Your word have I hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. Do not empty your mind, as the enemy (Satan) will take up space and residence there, deceive you, and cause you to sin. Instead, keep your mind full of the scriptures and “The Truth” found in those verses. Who is the actual truth? Jesus! John 14:6 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Did you know Jesus is also “The Word”? John 1:1 (NKJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:14 (NKJV) And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Decision Time – None of Us Is Guaranteed Tomorrow
John 8:12 (NKJV) Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” The Truth of the Light has been revealed through the Word. Once His light has exposed our sins, this light creates a responsibility to accept or reject the Word. God demands action, and faith is that action. Claim salvation (everlasting life) with faith.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT) Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
God’s Plan of Salvation
Faith in our one true triune living God (Father | Son – Jesus Christ | Holy Spirit) changes everything. We are no longer hell bound, but heaven bound. This supernatural faith, needed to believe in God, comes from hearing His Word—the Gospel (good news) of the Bible. Here are some “good news” salvation verses:
Romans 6:23 (NIV) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 3:23 (NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
John 3:16 (NKJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Romans 10:9-10 (NIV) If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
We Have Free Will to Choose
To be saved: Claim God’s plan of salvation with faith.
To be lost: Reject God’s plan of salvation.
Salvation is as simple as:
- admitting our sins to God in repentance (with sorrow) and turning away from them
- fearing God, knowing we deserve death as punishment for our sins
- acknowledging Jesus is the sinless Son of God
- pleading for Jesus’ mercy, yet knowing He paid our sin debt in full with His death, burial and resurrection
- claiming Jesus as our personal Savior with faith
Once we are saved, we need to start seeing ourselves as God sees us. Our old sinful spirit person was crucified with Christ. In our new born-again spirit we are righteous, holy and pleasing in God’s sight. Our new spirit is as perfect now as it ever will be, but our soul will need a makeover.
What Else Must We Do To Be Saved? Nothing!
Faith + 0 = Salvation
Salvation isn’t for sale. It’s a free gift from God. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Notice how this verse and other salvation verses in the Bible do not have anything else attached that says our faith is not enough. None of them say we must read the Bible, go to church, be baptized, be confirmed, partake of communion, give money, tithe, do good deeds, or anything else in order to be saved. Those are actions that can come as a result of our faith. Don’t get the cart before the horse. We can’t buy our salvation with those actions or anything else.
A child born into an earthly family will always be identified with that family, even if the child exhibits bad behavior. The same is true with a child of God, spiritually born into God’s family of believers. Nothing can change the status or placement of a Christian, not even bad behavior (sin). God doesn’t define us by our behavior. God defines us by our birth. Are we naturally born of Adam or are we now spiritually born of Christ Jesus? Nothing good we do will result in our salvation. And nothing bad we do will take away our salvation.
Does that mean we are free to sin? No! Galatians 5:13 (NIV) You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. Romans 6:1 (RGT) What, then, shall we say? Shall we continue in sin, so that grace may abound? Absolutely not! Remember, the more we read God’s Word, the more we will desire to please God and sin less.
What About Baptism?
First comes faith, then an outward sign (a testimony) of that faith like circumcision in the Old Testament times. Romans 4:11 (NLT) Circumcision was a sign that Abraham already had faith and that God had already accepted him and declared him to be righteous—even before he was circumcised. So Abraham is the spiritual father of those who have faith but have not been circumcised. They are counted as righteous because of their faith. Circumcision of Israelite men was an outward sign to show they had no confidence in the flesh – only faith in God.
As a result of our faith . . .
- We were baptized spiritually into Jesus into His death, burial and resurrection some 2,000 years ago. Romans 6:3-4 (NIV) Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Baptism, today, would be an outward sign (a testimony) of our faith just as circumcision was in the Old Testament times. Spiritually, we have already been there and done that!
- We were circumcised spiritually by Jesus. Colossians 2:11 NLT) When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. He cut away that relationship we once had with sin (our sin nature) along with its power. This circumcision freed us to be controlled and led by the Spirit of God.
Baptism today could be regarded as a remembrance, renewal of faith, and re-enactment of our baptism with Christ at the cross. It also reminds us of what lies ahead – the rapture and our completed redemption. At the rapture, Christ will meet believers (resurrected & living) in the air and take us to our heavenly home with Him. Jesus bought us with a price (His holy blood), and finally He will get what he paid for – Believers!
How Then Shall We Live As Christians?
We can make use of everything that comes with salvation. All that we could ever need or want has been placed in our born again spirit. With the authority given to us to use God’s power placed in us, we can with faith, claim what Jesus obtained for us. We live with an amount of belief and unbelief at the same time. As we hear the Word of God, our unbelief will decrease. Choose to live in abundance with faith. John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. See What Comes with Salvation? You will be amazed!
Once we are saved, we are SIN Survivors – not from any deeds of our own, but by God’s grace (His free gift of Jesus who paid our sin debt in full) and supernatural faith to believe Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection for our salvation. Jesus paid the price for ALL our past, present, and future sins. He has also forgiven us for ALL our sins. He has cast our sins far away, and He has chosen to remember them no more. We can live free from the guilt of sin. Once we have repented and turned away from our sins, we must forgive ourselves and others.
As Christians, We Know We Are Never Alone
God lives in us and He is just a prayer away. No matter our circumstance, we need to remember to thank Him for all of our blessings. It is good to let God know we worship, praise, thank, love, and trust Him. We can talk to God anytime about anything, anywhere we are. He always hears our prayers and answers our prayers. When we pray to God, we pray to the Father, through our mediator, Jesus (God & man), with the help of the Holy Spirit who interprets our prayers. We can choose to worry or pray. Choose to pray!
We need to continue renewing our minds with the Word of God. And, when we find like minded believers, we can support each other in the faith. Remember, we have the Holy Spirit on-board to guide us. When we face tough times, Psalm 23 is a great comfort.
Psalm 23 (KJV)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Notice that we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death. We aren’t camping out or building a house there. We are moving through it. And, it’s only a shadow of death. Shadows can’t hurt us. Even death has no power over us. Death for us is a split second transition from this natural life to a continued spiritual life throughout eternity.
Since we have faith, not in ourselves but in Christ and all that He obtained for us, we have the assurance of a heavenly home. At the Rapture, the groom (Jesus) will come to claim His bride – the church (believers resurrected and those alive). He will take us with Him to heaven where the pearly gates will be open – welcoming us home.
Now that “The Truth” (Jesus) has been revealed, will you claim Him and your salvation with faith?
See how a simple prayer led to Truth Revealed.
