The 2nd Commandment – Missing!

Ten Commandments
Unbiblical Ten Commandments

Are these The Ten Commandments you learned?
I hope not.  Because these are not biblical!

The Ten Commandments are written in two books of the Bible – Exodus and Deuteronomy.  Check out the biblical 2nd Commandment listed below regarding graven images/idolatry.  Believe it or not, that commandment has been removed and others rewritten and re-numbered by the Catholic Church!  Sadly, some other denominations have also continued this falsehood.

The biblical 2nd Commandment states idol worship of God’s creation is forbidden.   This includes bowing down before anyone or anything – manmade, dead or alive.  Could that commandment have been removed to allow the false worship of Mary, the pope, Catholic images and icons, or even something worse?  In the coming 7 year Tribulation, the False Prophet will force all people to worship the Antichrist.  Do not be deceived!

Beyond that, the 10th Commandment was separated so there would still be 10 Commandments.  Wow – that is devious!  What does God have to say about this?

Deuteronomy 4:2 (NKJV) You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

The Ten Commandments in the Bible

* God is clear and serious, stating His Commandments in two separate books of the Bible!

Commandment
Exodus 20:2-17 (NKJV)
Deuteronomy 5:6-21 (NKJV)
1
2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.6 ‘I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 7 ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.
2
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.8 ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 9 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
3
7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.11 ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.12 ‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
5
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.16 ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
6
13 “You shall not murder.17 ‘You shall not murder.
7
14 “You shall not commit adultery.18 ‘You shall not commit adultery.
8
15 “You shall not steal.19 ‘You shall not steal.
9
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.20 ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”21 ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife; and you shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.’

Romans 1:21-23 (ESV) For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

The Ten CommandmentsGod hates idolatry.  The thought of bowing down to anything or anyone but the one true triune living God is detestable.  Do The Ten Commandments you learned match the ones listed here?  I hope so, as these ARE biblical.

What’s the big deal?  Aren’t Christians free from the Mosaic LawYes.
The Law God gave to Moses, for His people, is like a mirror.  We need these laws (commandments) because they reveal we are all sinners in need of a savior.  That Savior is Jesus, the Son of God.

However, Christ’s crucifixion set us free from the curse of the Mosaic Law.  Christians no longer face the penalty (eternal death and torment) for not keeping the Law.  Jesus didn’t come to destroy the Law; He came to fulfill the Law.  He was the only one who never broke the Law.  Jesus never sinned!  Because of this, God sees Jesus as the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God – worthy to pay our sin debt on the cross.
Romans 6:14-15 (NKJV) For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.  From Slaves of Sin to Slaves of God  What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

Here’s the difference . . .

Christians are under the law of Christ.
Because of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, we are not under the Mosaic Law, but rather the law of ChristHis law says we are to love God with all of our being and love our neighbors as we love ourselves.  If we abide in Christ’s law, we will not want to break any of The Ten Commandments.  Our desire to obey Christ’s law is because we love Him.

Mark 12:28-31 (NKJV) The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?  Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
